Katie Johnson
Katie Johnson began her ballet career at the age of twelve, where she performed with the Rochester City Ballet and the New York State Youth Ballet in major classical productions including The Nutcracker, Swan Lake, Le Corsaire, and Alice in Wonderland, performing the lead role of “Big Alice.”
In 2004, Katie matriculated to Canada’s Royal Ballet School in Winnipeg, Manitoba where she received certification in both the Vaganova and Cecchetti methodologies in 2007. While at this institution, she worked under the supervision of Ms. Johanne Gingras, the director of teacher training, and also interacted with RWB director, Ms. Arlene Minkhorst. Following graduation, relocated to Maryland and taught intermediate and adult ballet classes at the Ballet Theatre of Maryland in Annapolis.
In 2012, Katie founded the New York State Ballet Company later that year, dedicated to preserving classical ballet while making high-quality training and performance accessible to a broad range of dancers. As Artistic Director, she produced and staged numerous full-length classical ballets, including annual productions of The Nutcracker, as well as Romeo and Juliet, Sleeping Beauty, and Beauty and the Beast. Katie is very excited to be a working with the students at The Dance Source!
